History of Ice Cream

Dreaming of Davisons Ice CreamIce Cream has been made for over two thousand years but it is not known who first came up with the idea. Though according to historic records Emperor Nero in 62 AD sent his servants to the mountains to bring ice back to Rome - his chefs mixed the ice with fruit juices and milk to make a tasty cooling treat for the emperor.

In the thirteenth century the famous Italian Explorer Marco Polo discovered a new recipe for ice cream while exploring in China. Hence the Italians would become most famous for their ice creams and first started to commercially produce the famous treat.

When Catherine De Medici of Florence left Italy to marry King Henry II of France she brought an Ice Cream recipe with her - thus it was introduced to France and from those shores to England. Ice Cream probably was introduced to the Isle of Man in the late 18th Century.
